Sushi*

Last Sunday, I had shooting at Hirakata-city with Mitsuko. :)
We shot Mitsuko's uncle's friend who is a craftsman of sushi. We went to his restaurant to shoot. After we finished shooting, Mitsuko's uncle dine us for sushi.X)***
It was so delicious because sushi wasn't the cheap ones like we eat at rotating sushi restaurant. I really enjoyed that day.:)

Lately, I don't know why but many old people (especially men) all of the sudden talks to me. Few weeks ago, I was on the bus and the old man started to talk to me. In the beginning, he was talking about the weather and stuffs like that but he started to talk about private things too.lol
He was talking to me the whole time while we were on the bus.XD
Also, when I am working at SEVEN ELEVEN, many customers who is quite old talks to me a lot. Never young people.lol
I don't really mind though. Talking with old people is sometimes fun.:)lol

Christmas is coming! :)

It's gonna be winter break in 2weeks and I'm really excited! XD

I'm really planning to do a lot of things with my boyfriend. :) (Of course) I'm going to spend Christmas with him but we haven't really decided where to go. I really want to see illuminations but we don't know where we should go. Luminarie is going to end on the 17th so we can't really go... So, if there's a place which we can see beautiful illuminations please tell me!:)***
I REALLY love to see illuminations. It makes me feel warm. Don't you think so?
When I was in Canada, also in States, a lot of people decorated their houses with illunminations and it's just so awesome. In Japan recently, some people are decorating their houses too.:)
Also, I'm excited to go to shrine on the 31st and 1st. Did everyone decided what to do on winter break? I hope everone will have a great winter break.:) But before that, we have to finish our asignments!!

By the way, this is the illumination in Kansai Gaidai.:) There's my friend Hiroko in the middle.**

Otaku

Hi.:)
Last weekend I was pretty busy. On Saturday I had part-time job and on Sunday I had to shoot our podcast in Kawanishi-city, which where I live. This time we had to shoot 'Otaku' and we could not find them at all for the last minute. Mami and Rimi went to Sannomiya to find Otaku but no one helped us.:(
We were really worried if we could find it or not. However, I asked my friend from high school and he said that at his work place, there is a guy who is 'Otaku'. So, I asked that Otaku to be in our podcast and he said ok.
Mami came to Kawanishi-city (Thank you!*) and we shot at Wendy's. It only took about 2hours to shoot.:) I really really appreciate him for helping us!X)***
Also I want to thank Mami and Rimi for going to Sannomiya and trying to find Otaku!x)
I'm sure Mitsuko will do an excellant job on editing!;)
I'm really glad that we finished it on time.

Labor Thanksgiving Day

Hi:) How was your weekend?
I didn't do anything special those 3days but I pretty much enjoyed it.
On Friday I went shopping with my boyfriend to Osaka. :) I haven't been there for a long time for shopping. It was holiday so there were so many people there and a lot of little kids. Me and my boyfriend didn't have that much money so we didn't really buy anything though. :(
We got tired of people so we went to a cake shop to have some coffee and cake. There is a cake shop near Hankyu train station, near Mcdonald's and it is REALLY good!X)** So, I think everybody should try it. ;)
However for shopping, I think Kobe is better place!X) I do like Osaka, but it's so crowded and stores are all scattered so it's hard to find what store is where. But in Kobe, all the stores are organized in one place so it's really easy to find it.:) Maybe this is because I often don't go to Osaka.

Anyways, I hope everyone had a great weekend.:)***

Alone at the time of danger

The article, "Alone at the time of danger" is about Japanese people who overlook other people’s trouble. Peter Sidell, the author of this article, introduces two incidents.

One is which happened in Kawaguchi City in Saitama prefecture. Young woman was murdered and died. Her neighbor heard a loud bang and her screaming. Body was found two days later by her coworker who got worried about her. However the neighbor did not do anything when he had heard the loud bang and her screaming. If the man had called the police or did something in the first place she might had been survived.

The other one is about a woman who had been molested in a crowded train and dragged away to the toilet and got raped. All the people who were there with them did not help the woman or called the police at all. They just stood there and watched.

He is using these two facts as his authorities. Also he is using emotions and trying to tell the readers that people have to protect themselves by their own. However he does not mentioned about his own experience in that kind of situation so this article is not clear.

US-VISIT of Japan

The article, "Not so welcome to Japan any longer" is about the law which is going to be enact on November 20th. This is called “US-VISIT of Japan” and it is for preventing terrorists entering Japan. In this system, people from other countries will get their fingerprints checked and photographs taken when they enter Japan. This will be done legally to all people except for children who are under 16, Korean living in Japan and for special permanent residence.

Kevin Rafferty says that this is discrimination. He says that this regards all foreign people as a reserve of terrorist. Also, he says that this will not prevent terrorists entering Japan.

I think this is a one good way for preventing. Maybe this will make foreign people feel bad but the world recently is not that peaceful compared to old days. Therefore this is a great way to protect our country.

2007年11月6日火曜日

Response to the article

Today's response is about the article, "Views from the Street". This article was about discrimination in Japan. 6 people who are from Japan, America and Australia say different opinion about discrimination. Cittarelli and Oag from Australia both say that Japanese people don't like Chinese people. Johnson who is from America says that black people are discriminated and he also says about Chinese people. Furusawa and Yokota, who is from Japan, says that handicapped people are discriminated such as hard to find a job. Suzuki says that people from outcast class is still been discriminated.

Mike Dewood wrote a respond, "Ebb and flow of discrimination". He says that discrimination depends on where you live. I agree with him. I think in every country, they each have its own way of deciding whether it's discriminate or not. For example, in McKenna's article, a lot of foreigners talk about Chinese people. They say that Japanese people don't like Chinese people and get annoyed when they hear Chinese spoken in Japan. However, maybe people from other country won’t think that way. Also, they don’t have a fact that this is true.

Furusawa and Yokata mentioned about handicapped people getting discriminated. There are many handicapped people in Japan and I see it on the news that the government doesn't do anything for them. I do agree to this but I've never experienced this kind of thing around me.

Therefore, each country has its own idea in each thing so it depends on where you live.

Respond to the letter, "Don't judge marines too fast"

Responding to MANUEL SANDOVAL's letter,"Don't judge marines too fast" ,he seems like he does not care about women's feelings. He says that it is not strange for those kind of things such as rape, happening to women who is working at a bar. Whatever the reasons was, rape is a crime obviously and it should never happen.

Moreover, they are from the "U.S. military". They should be protecting countries not being criminals. Sandoval is saying that if U.S. military leaves Japan, no one will protect Japan from other countries so people should respect them. However, this is nothing to do with this incident. It does not mean that U.S. military people can rape women.

Sandoval is looking down at Japanese people. He just want to say that U.S. military is doing a important job for Japan, so Japanese police should over look this incident.

He just cares about his own country and being boaster that he is from the States. He does not care about women's feelings even an inch.

Why I am in IES

At first, I chose Kansai Gaidai because I've been studying English since I was in kindergarten and I wanted to keep studying English.

I knew that Kansai Gaidai had a class called IES and we could study English more than other classes with the same school fee. My mom was really happy about it and she wanted me to be in IES. However, I did not really want to be in IES class because I am not that kind of a girl who studies seriously. Also, I heard that I can't be in circle.

The day that we took TOEFL test, I knew that I was going to fail IES anyway so I circled on the sheet to be in IES. Unfortunately, I passed it. However, everyone said to me that it means that I have a high level skill of English so I should try.

Therefore, I decided to try it. Although I had many times that I wanted to quit IES. To tell the truth, I was getting really tired physically and mentally. I didn't have time to sleep. I did not have a confidence in my ability. I could not catch up with everyone.

However, I'm getting used to this life and one thing that IES has changed me is that I'm kind of getting to know what I want to be in the future. I've never had a dream. However now I'm thinking to work at the airport. I can't explain it concretely, but I'm thinking of it seriously. I've learned a lot in IES and although it's still hard for me, I'll try it to make my dream come true.

Grandma

How's it going?:)
Lately, I have a lot of things to do (well, especially home work) so I go to bed around 3A.M so I'm kind of getting tired...
I wasn't like this when I was in high school though. I NEVER studied or did my homework. lol I was hanging out with my friends everyday after school.
Anyways, today I got letters from my host family in Canada.:D They sent me some birthday presents and pictures. My birthday was on August.
I was sooo happy that they sent me some presents and letters and pictures. I was reading the letter from my host sister and as I notice the fact, I was shocked.
My host mom's mom (Grandma)has passed two months ago. I could not believe this. Grandma is only 59years old and she always looked healthy and active. I didn't know, but she had cancer. I really loved grandma. She welcomed me in her family, and she was always nice to me and gave me a big hug. Grandma lived 5hours away by car from my house so we couldn't visit her that often. I really loved going to her house. She baked the BEST bread in the world! X)
It was like a month before I came back to Japan, grandma came to our house to say good-bye to me and gave me presents. She said to me that she hopes to see me again and I'm always welcome to her house.
In the letter I sent last time, I asked my host family how's grandpa and grandma are doing. I was assuming that my host family would write in the letter that they are doing good. I never thought about somebody passed away. I was always assuming for a good news. But now that she has passed away I will never get to see her.
We should always have in our mind that people around us would not always be there. We should not assume that they are always there.
I'm so glad that I met her in Canada and I will never forget the times I spent with her.

Gairaigo-foreign loan words-

In Japan these days, many gairaigo, loan words are used and we use them everyday when we speak or write. For us like teenagers feel this is common and we use them without thinking anything. Also there are a lot of loan words which are abbreviated and we don't even know the real words.

My opinion is that I think it is not wrong to use loan words. It feels familiar to us and comfortable to use. Also young people think that it is cool to use loan words when they talk or when they write and I think that's fine.

However I think using difficult loan words is useless. For example, the word "country identity" and "accountablity". The other day when I was watching the news on TV, former prime minister Abe was using so many loan words in the speech. I could not understand almost everything what he said. He was using loan words which were too difficult for us to understand. I think most of the people did not understand what he was saying. If he really wanted to use loan words, then he should have explain what those words mean. Therefore, in these kind of case we should not use difficult loan words.

Older people might think that using loan word is wrong and we should use the proper language. However the age is changing day by day like the electrical appliances are developing and this is the Japanese reality so we can't do anything about it.

Tokyo Disney Land

This summer, I didn't do anything special compared to when I was a high school student. I had part-time job 4th a week so I was working a lot this summer.

However, one biggest event that I've done in this summer vacation is going to Tokyo Disney Land. I went there with my boyfriend and we went there with the night bus. We didn't have a lot of money so we went there with the cheapest plan. The bus seat wasn't comfortable at all because of the cheapest plan and we were on the bus for 8hours. We got to there at8:00A.M so we had to wait for a little outside. However, that day was so humid and also that day was during Bon festival, so there were tons of people there. After the gate was open, we were looking for some attraction but all of them were fulled of people and we had to wait for about 3 to 4 hours to just get on one attraction. My boyfriend and I weren't that patient so we looked for ones that aren't popular. The first one we went is called "Micro Adventure". This is a 3D movie show and I've seen this couple of times but it was really fun. It feels very scared when everything pops out in front of us but it was fun. Every time we go on the attraction, we take a rest and have a cold drink. As I said, that day was so hot that even if we drink a lot we sweat a lot so we didn't had to go to the washroom.
Not just Japanese people were there. There were may people from all over the world. I thought that there was a lot of Chinese people there. I don't know why but many people asked my boyfriend to push the button of the camera. Maybe it was easy to ask him.
My boyfriend doesn't really like roller coasters so we didn't got on a roller coaster. I really liked the "Western River Railroad". This one, you get on this train and we go into the jungle and tells us about the history. Nothing fun thing is going to happen on this one but if you got tired getting on other action attractions, this one is good to rest.
I bought a lot of souvenir for my family and my friends. My boyfriend and I bought a pair cell phone strap for our cell phone.:) In the night, we saw the parade. It was so beautiful. I was really impressed.

This was just so amazing! It's more beautiful than looking at this picture. Just watching this parade made me feel happy.
After the parade is over, we went back to our bus and went home. I don't know why but the bus that we took on our way home was a little bit higher grade bus than the one we took on our way to Disney Land. I slept very comfortably than before.
I really really had fun there with my boyfriend.
If you would like to go to Tokyo Disney Land, look at this website and you can get information.

I had part-time job this summer and I couldn't really go anywhere but this was the awesome event this summer. I'll save money and next time I want to go somewhere else.

Sannomiya,Kobe:)

Yesterday, I went to Sannomiya which is in Kobe with Mami.:)
I think most of the people are from different prefecture so you don't know this place, but Sannomiya is really famous in Hyogo prefecture.:) My high school used to be there so I no a lot about Sannomiya.
Mami lives close to where I live so we went to Sannomiya to go for shopping.:)
Sannomiya is a big city and there are many places to go for shopping. We bought a lot of clothes and we are now satisfied!X) We chatted for a long time. After that we took purikura. :) For supper, we went to Kushiya. Does anybody know here? You could fry Kushikatsu and other food by yourself here. Kushiya is very delicious so everyone should go there once!*

I haven't been to Sannomiya for a long time so it was fun and it memorized me the day that I was going to high school and hanging out with my friends after school.:) Almost everyday I went to Kareoke or go eat supper with my friends.

I really had a great day with Mami.:)

Summer Break:)

Hi:)
It is almost summer break!:) yeah!!
What is everybody planning to do? I'm not sure what I'm going to do but maybe I'll go to one of the summer festival. I usually don't wear yukata beacause casual clothes is easy to move, but this year I'm planning to wear it!:) I love the food and all the activities in the festival. I like to do kingyo sukui. I once got some goldfish and brought them home and took care of them for about a year!
Also I want to go to see the fireworks! There are a lot of places near my house which you can see firework displays. So, this year maybe I'll go to Itami or Inagawa(place near to my house) to see it. I love the sound of the firewoks.:)
However, before all these great and fun things, I have to work... I have part-time job 4 or 5 days a week.
Anyways, I just can't wait for the summer break!X)

SEVEN ELEVEN

Yesterday I had part-time job till 22:00 so I'm so tired now...
I got home and I had supper and when I looked at the clock it was already 12 in the morning. I still had to take a bath and do my homework, however I was really tired. Also I had to study for the test which was Hangul. But I was just sooo tired, I fell asleep in the living room. When I got up my mom and my brother was in their room already in bed. They left me in the living room. My mom could be little bit more nice to me to wake me up. I was too lazy to go to my room so I just kept sleeping there. I got up 5 in the morning and took a shower and finished my homework.
I started to work at SEVEN ELEVEN since I entered this university. It was my first time having a part-time job so I wasn't sure if I could do it. After few months past and I'm doing good now and enjoying it.
However, working 5hours till 22:00 the day before school is just tiring...

Sport festival★

Today I would like to tell you about one of my best memory in high school. :)

One of my best memory was sport festival when I was is 3rd grade. Girls danced with holding pom-poms. The song was "Pekori night" and "Mickey" which are Gorie's song.

This is a picture taken after the sport festival. Sorry that the quality of the picture is bad.X( Can you tell where I am?:)
Sport festival was held in September and I came back from Canada in July so I had to memorize the dance in 2months. Other people started long time ago so me and my friends who just came back from studying abroad only had few days to memorize it.
But, I really had a great time dancing with everyone! It was just so fun! I love my class so much.XD
I still remember how to dance so I will be happy to show you.:)lol
Did everyone enjoy your high school life? I hope everyone did.:)

Baby Hatch

Today I would like to talk about baby hatch.

Baby hatch is where you adopt baby if you can not take care of the baby anymore. Recently, the number of people who leave babies somewhere is increasing. Instead of just leaving the baby somewhere and let them die, people thought that if there is somewhere safe to put the baby it is better than dying.
However some people think this is not a good idea.

Letter One

This woman said that baby hatch is not the answer.

She have worked with children and families for more than 20 years. She understands how much children get sad when they are away from their family. It doesn't matter how old they are, it is too shocking for children to be away from their family. If we have baby hatch a lot of parents will put their child in it. That's why she thinks baby hatch is not the answer for saving children.

Letter Two

This woman said that baby hatch is maybe not the right thing to do but it is one way to save the child.
She gave an example of a couple who were in junior high school and had a baby. The couple got scared and they abandoned the baby nearby the temple and the baby died.
She says, if there were a place like Jikei hospital's baby hatch, maybe those couple would have been put the baby in there and the baby wouldn't have died.

I agree to the woman who wrote letter two.
As she said, I don't think that baby hatch is the best thing to do. However, if the baby is going to die, then it is better to put them in the baby hatch and let them be in a safe place. If they live with their parents who thought about abanding their children, maybe they will get abused.
I don't understand why parents abandon their child. Its their child and they should love them. If they don't want children they shouldn't be making children. It is just so cruel to do that. Baby's are human, not a little creature.

Brownies

When I have time I like to bake cookies, pound cakes and so on. I usually bake cookies because this is the easiest bake to do. However, this time I challenged on baking Brownies.
Does it look delicious? It was my first time baking brownies but I think I did a great job.

When I lived in the States my friend's mom will always made brownies for parties. This is when I knew brownies.

This is the recipes for brownies. Brownies are easy to bake so I think if you have time you should try it.

I always thought brownies are known to most of the people in the world but I never thought how brownies were known to everyone and who made it first.

Brownies were first eaten in America, since the 19th century. It was first appeared in the Sears, Roebuck Catalog in 1897. There was a cook who forgot to add baking powder to the chocolate batter and this was how brownies were made. Browny's histories aren't really known but for more infomation you could go to this website.

If you have time you should try to make brownies. It is easy to make and it is delicious.
If you watch this you can make brownies easily.

A few interesting links

Today I'm going to share with you a couple of links to websites I think are interesting.

First of all, I would like to tell you the sites which I see at my free time.

I'm one of the member of mixi. I think most of the people know this but this is kind of a blog. Lately I'm busy so I'm not writing blogs but I check my friends blogs and I comment them.

I like listening to music and I like to check what's new, so I go to Music-PV STYLE. In this site, you could listen to music and watch PVs free. There are all kinds of music here. Also if I want to know the lyrics I go to UTA-Map. This is also free.

Sometimes I check Kobe Ryukoku high school website which was my high school. We have junior high school and senior high school. Our schools point is that the uniform is the brand COMME CA DU MODE. I really like it although it was really expensive.
I usually use the MSN to search because my computer is set to MSN. I check my hotmail sometimes.
When I'm bored and have nothing to do I go to Miniclip Games. There are so many free games here and it's very fun.

These are my favorite websites. Please visit them if you have time.

My dog.:)

This is my dog Pero. I took this picture at my gradma's house.
As you can see, she is so CUTE.:) I really adore her. She is living with us since I was in grade 6. She is a cross between a german shepard, shiba-ken, and Golden retriver. Her face looks a little bit scary but she is shy and scared of people other than our family. She doesn't like to be lonely so she is always sleeping beside us. She always welcome us to the front door when we get home.
She is our treasure.

Commercial for NOVA

★Target Audience★
This commercial is directed at people who would like to enjoy and learn English. Anybody can come to NOVA even salary workers after their work.

 ★Authority★
Two men in this commercial are not famous. However, NOVA, itself is really famous. The slogan "ekimae ryugaku" is famous and most of the people will know from this word. All NOVA is close from the train station so it is really useful for everyone to go.

 ★Emotion★
This commercial is comedy. Two men's relationship is a superior and a subordinate when they are at work. But when they are at NOVA they are NOVA-TOMO (NOVA friends).

Even though their relationship is a superior and a subordinate when they are at work, when they come to NOVA everybody is the same and they can enjoy English.

★Logic/information★
In the middle of this commercial, it says on the wall, "ekimae ryugaku"( feels like you're studying abroad, but in Japan close to the train station), "ochanoma ryugaku" (feels like you're studing abroad, but in Japan at your house), NOVA KIDS, which is for kids, and studying abroad.
This shows that there are a lot of options to study English at NOVA. Also it is really useful system because even if you are busy and can not go to the class, you could learn English at home, which is "ochanoma ryugaku".
Also it says , for the first 10 people entrance fee will be free and lesson fee will be 10% off at the most.

 ★Evalution★
I think this commercial is really funny. Because in real world at work, superior and a subordinate can not be this friendly to each other. However, in this commercial it tells us that even a relationship like superior and subordinate, can be friendly to each other if you come to NOVA and learn English.
I would not go to NOVA because it costs a lot of money than it is saying in the commercial. However it seems really fun to learn English at NOVA. When I was little I was in NOVA KIDS but it was actually fun.
Maybe people who don't have enough money and time to go study abroad, this is a really good system for them.

Hi!

My name is Shiori Hiraki. I'd like to introduce myself today. :)
I'm from which is in Hyogo prefecture. It takes me about 2 hours to come to Kansai Gaidai. It's a long way to come here but I really wanted to study English so I came here.

My birthday is August 23rd. Usually my friends say that I'm blonde. lol My hobby is listening to music and go shopping. I like all kind of music but I especailly like Kobukuro. Their songs are awesome. :) I often go shopping to Kobe and Osaka. I LOVE animals. I especailly like dogs. I have a dog named Pero and she's so cute. My high school was Kobe Ryukoku high school.

Last year when I was in Grade11, I went to Canada to study abroad for a year. Living away from my family and my home town was a little bit tough for me. I got homesick and I really wanted to go back to Japan. But everybody supported me and I really had a great year in Canada. :) Now I really miss my host family. :( So I hope I can visit them someday.

I will do my best in this class and I hope I will get along with everybody.

Talk to ya later. :)
